Cross My Heart And Hope To Die

CROSS MY HEART AND HOPE TO DIE

Cross My Heart and Hope to Die is a film about 13 years old Otto and unforgettable summer in his young life. It was the summer he became afraid of the dark and the summer he had secrets to keep, the summer his father had an accident and his mother acted so strangely. Above all it was the summer Otto met Frank. Otto is an awkward young teenager growing up in 60s. Living with his parents in a modest apartment block. Otto’s quiet personality belies his true nature, which emerges when he meets Frank. Frank is a mysterious ruffian who turned up when everyone else had left on holiday, with the question “You never done nothing wrong before?” The script was written by one of Norway’s most productive and popular writers. Lars Saabye Christensen and was based on one of his own novels. “Good stories really interest me, and I want to make films that challenge and that people can identify with. Next time, however, I will do something completely different. It will have to be a contemporary film about adults. We need all kinds of films, from the intellectual to the purely entertaining. How the story is told is just as important as the story itself, the style, the visual expression. Whatever you do you must have faith in the audiences, they must not b underestimated. Films which do not provide scope for the individual imagination are boring.” says Marius Holst.
