Three Wise Men

Matti (51), a police inspector, Erkki (51), photographer and Rauno (51), actor, are childhood friends, who haven't seen each other far a long time. They meet coincidentally on a Christmas Eve in Helsinki and spend the night together in a karaoke bar. Between drinking and singing they tell about the joys and sorrows of their lives, revealing some paintful experiences and taking even their friendship apart. The events take a dramatic turn, when a mysterious woman enters the bar. "The idea for Three Wise Man was born in discussions with the three main actors. We started talking about acting and different methods of acting and making films. Then John Cassavetes and his way of working with actors come up and soon after we decided to conduct an experiment and make a film inspired by his method... Even if the film was short time and with limited financial resources, it was, however, quite well prepared, I met with the actors many times during the months before shooting; we even rehearsed the method with camera beforehand. So the actors were well prepared and were able to work within the method." Mika Kaourismaki
