Present Tense

A 28-year-old, unemployed university graduate has divorced her ambitious husband, severed the ties with her parents and is now being thrown out of her flat. Mina is surrounded by troubles. Her mind is made up: she will escape to America like her rebellious aunt did some 20 years ago. But how? She needs money, papers and a visa. She applies for a job at a fortune-telling café, lying that she has previous experience. The young boss Tayfun finds her unusual, and hyperactive fortune-teller Fazi needs someone she can control; so she is welcomed. Through the shapes emerging in the grounds at the bottom of coffee cups, Mina expresses her own frustrations and desire to match them with those of the customers. Her method seems to work well. Her hopes blossom, but the jealous Fazi and amorous Tayfun are a confusing distraction. Will she be able to get away from present tense and try her luck for the future?
