Work Hard - Play Hard
A documentary about the blurring of boundaries in the workplace. Man, as the most important engine of growth in our highly skilled and qualified Western service society, has become the prime focus of modern management practices. A cultural change is sweeping through companies: the days of tracking hours and mandatory in-office attendance are a thing of the past. In its place, the “trust-based” system of working hours has become de rigueur, with everybody working wherever and whenever they like. But in the face of this new freedom, how can companies still motivate their employees to strive towards and achieve superlative performance? One way to do so is with what modern management theory calls “change management” which appears frighteningly capable of entrenching itself in the human soul. With a visual narrative that is at once still and expectant, the film takes us to places where this transformation in the work world is very real and tangible and observes the “change officials” at work. It’s in the tenuously pointed interviews with them that the ideas and concepts for a brave new working world come up.
