Sacred Family, The
It’s Easter at the beach house of a contemporary well-to-do Chilean family. A typical family. One whose world may be falling apart but who nonetheless try to maintain the solemnity and sobriety such holy days demand. A successful self-centered father, a disoriented mother and a son disowned by his father form the family that will suffer a sudden and everlasting change over the course of one weekend. The story unfolds as they await the arrival of the son’s first official girlfriend, a disturbing and rebellious young lady who invades the house with her powerful sexual energy and other “gifts”, unleashing an emotional and irreversible cataclysm. Other friends tart to arrive at the beach: a beautiful insolent young woman who has taken a mysterious vow of silence and two university mates who must prepare for an important exam, but who, just like the others, are inevitably taken into the destructive unforgettable passion ruling these holy days. The Sacred Family is a movie that shows, without objections or pleasures, how the basic core of society silently disintegrates, but at the same time manages to find the tenderness that redeems those who must -or may- be saved.
