10% - What Makes A Hero
In his film 10% – What Makes A Hero?, Yoav Shamir sets out from a photo he saw on Facebook. This showed a man standing at a rally with hands clasped, while thousands around him raised their right arms in the Nazi salute. The figure of the isolated man valiantly resisting crowd psychology drove Shamir to explore the notion of heroism. An estimated 10% of every country’s population is reckoned to be capable of acting honourably in extremis, and as the director seeks out these individuals, he leads the audience on an engaging journey from Africa to the United states, from geneticists to behavioural scientists and Bonobo apes to modern man.
