Fires

*With the presentation of Kitty Aal

An adaptation of Wajdi Mouawad’s brilliant stage play, Fires centers on the quest of two Quebecois siblings, Jeanne and Simon, as they discover their family’s mysterious past in an unnamed Middle Eastern country. Upon the death of their mother, Nawal (played by the quietly fierce Lubna Azabal), as part of their inheritance they are each given a letter imparting them with a mission to find a significant member of the family they never met. It is a brutal education as they unravel a history of mythic proportions that reveals the unimaginable bonds between strangers and enemies. Villeneuve masterfully recreates Moawad’s tale of facing truths, the absurdity of civil war, and the beauty of giving order to disorder.
