I Thank You For Each New Morning
I THANK YOU FOR EACH NEW MORNING
I Thank You For Each New Morning I Thank You For Each New Morning is a picture mosaic of the course of the twenty years following the Russian occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1968. It is the story of Olga, her family, friends and peer, viewed with irony and sagacious humour. Olga’s happy teens, strongly influenced by her relationship with her father-a Ukrainian poet and hot-head-are being disrupted ever more strongly by the normalization process of the seventies. The world Olga’s girlhood illusions and first loves changes into a world of adult relationship where friendship, human character and love often disintegrate under the pressure of reality. Their Ukrainian relations keep coming to Prague, bearing news of birth and death. Following an anonymous denouncement, Olga is not accepted at university, and her father begins an endless battle against the absurd accusation. Olga wins this issue but rushes headlong into further collisions, which finally bring her maturity and peace of mind. The film is the first attempt in Czech cinematography to tell the story of the period which disrupted so many human fates and turned all values inside out. In this bitter comedy truly comic situations give way to tears. The film has no simple advice to give, but its heroes and heroines know that not giving in, not forgetting how to laugh-are attitudes both positive and valid.
