The film is set in Glasgow on the Dubh Loch and focuses on the funeral arrangements for a veteran of the International Brigade- a timely subject in 1986, the fiftieth anniversary of the Spanish Civil War. Director says that his aim was to recreate the kind of characters he believed populated the world when he was a child growing up in Glasgow.
