Duska

Dutch intellectual, film critic and screenwriter Bob visits an obscure film festival in Kiev, when he meets the poor but nice Duska. “Whenever you’re in Holland, come and see me”, he says, knowing that Duska will never leave Kiev. He is therefore flabbergasted when Duska turns up at his doorstep, out of the blue and months later. This is the beginning of a series of dramatic and comical events. Especially since neither of them speaks the other one’s language, making any communication impossible. Duska stays for a few days but days turn into weeks; which become eventually months. Duska tries his very best to be nice, but he gets more and more on Bob’s nerves. His continued presence starts to leave a mark on Bob’s life. Even Bob’s muse, the young girl in the box office of a cinema nearby, has enough of these two unhandy men. Then Bob comes to the point that he can no longer bear Duska’s sight and declares war on him. But when he’s finally gone and time goes by, Bob misses him deeply.
