Marona's Fantastic Tale

Eye-tickling in its design, occasionally tear-jerking in its execution, “Marona” feels vibrant and upbeat even in moments of melancholy — like diving into an artistic child’s sketchbook and watching the illustrations splash to life all around.

Peter Debruge

Marona is a half-breed Labrador whose life leaves deep traces among the humans she encounters. After an accident, she reflects on all the homes and different experiences she’s had. As Marona’s memory journeys into the past, her unfailing empathy and love brings lightness and innocence into each of her owners’ lives. With Belgian cartoonist, Brecht Evens, behind the character design, the animated feature promises audiences a playful and aesthetically rich watch. Remarkable for its inventive animation techniques and visual style, Marona screened and won critical acclaim at Annecy, one of the world’s premier animation festivals.

“Love and death are the underlying motives that connect all of my films. ‘Marona’s Fantastic Tale’ embodies these themes in the most personal, delicate and insightful way.”
