It Is Easier For A Camel

A wealthy but dysfunctional family teeters on the brink of collapse in this emotional drama leavened with a strong dose of dark comedy. Federica, along with older brother Aurelio and younger sister Bianca, was brought to France as a child to escape the kidnappings to which the Italian ruling class was prey in the 70's. The siblings, whose money hasn't bought them equilibrium, let alone happiness, are all emotional cripples. It is summer in Paris and their father is in the hospital breathing his last. They each confront their feelings in their own way. Emotionally distant Aurelio plans a long and expensive vacation, while Bianca is in a sour mood and refuses to lift Federica. Federica is attempting to establish herself as a playwright, tries to focus on her work, while also maintaining her own circle of friends. She has left-wing intellectual friends, but she also feels the need to attend confession and tell the priest about her sinful meetings with a married writer. The stage director, their family's old friend, rejects her literary work. Dancing and religion are nothing but passing fancies. Overwhelmed by her approaching inheritance, by her tangled relationships with those around her and by the weight of a haunting guilt, Federica seeks comfort in the imaginary. Wide-awake dreams where reality becomes perfect and wonderful. The title is drawn from Matthew "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God".
