As You Like It

The director visited cemeteries and graveyards, and other mementoes of mortality in numerous countries in his attempt to show human beings’ craving to create “imperishable marks”, to leave behind some “trace that would endure” once they are gone. The keynote of this harrowing, philosophically-inspired film of great dramatic force is dismay at the prospect of mortality, a phenomenon that remains baffling and incomprehensible for all that is reluctantly accepted as a fact.
