Island

Once there was an old man… and the sea… and a story to be told. “I was born on the 4th of July (1807), close to the sea, like here… dreams of the far led me to adventures on distant seas and foreign countries. In South America I met the love of my life Anita, always by my side through good and bad days. For years we had lived through defeats and victories far from home. Back in Italy those were turbulent times of political unrest. And so, filled with hope, my wife and three children I returned home to participate in the fight for liberty and unity”. Now an old man, Giuseppe Garibaldi, Italian national hero of the past century, who freed Rome from foreign occupation with his famous red coats and brought the unification of the country, tells his story to a young shipwrecked boy, who has found refuge on the shores of Garibaldi’s island. Giuseppe Verdi’s evocative music accompanies the story that unfolds through over 100 thousand hand drawn image.
