Born in Ardahan in 1961, Reis Çelik studied music and drama at the Istanbul State Conservatoire. In 1982, he began working as an economics and political correspondent for the national newspapers. After shooting documentary films, he made his first feature in 1996 with Let There Be Light. This was followed with Goodbye Tomorrow (1988), a dramatisation of the story of late 1960s student leader Deniz Gezmiş. He made his third feature Tales of Intransigence (2003), an improvised docudrama about the storytelling tradition in northeast Anatolia.
