Born in Altötting in Bavaria in 1965. He studied documentary filmmaking at the College of Television and Film in Munich from 1985-92. He won a scholarship from the Screenwriters' Workshop in Munich and attended a scriptwriter's course at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He directed his first feature film Nach fünf im Urwald / It's a Jungle Out There in 1996.
