The Festival on Wheels, an event organized by the Ankara Cinema Association with the support of the Turkish Ministry of Culture & Tourism, is gearing up to celebrate its 20th anniversary this year. Scheduled to run from 28 November – 08 December 2014, the Festival will start out as always from Ankara. Screenings in the capital will be held from 28 November – 04 December. The Festival will then begin its travels, stopping first in FormersCity from 03 – 07 December. This leg of the journey is made possible with the support of the Anadolu University Faculty of Communication Sciences. For its next port of call, the Festival on Wheels will head to the Black Sea port of Sinop from 05 – 08 December. Events here will be hosted once more by the Sinop Culture & Tourism Association, an enthusiastic patron of the Festival for the past three years.
2014 is the 20th year that the Festival on Wheels has been on the road with a mission to take world-class cinema to movie buffs in cities around Turkey, and at the same time to introduce Turkish cinema to the world beyond Turkey’s borders. During that time, the Festival has travelled some 56,872 kilometers to 23 cities in five different countries with a truckload of the latest and greatest in national and world cinema. True to form, this 20th anniversary edition promises Festival goers plenty more in the way of surprises with a line-up of workshops and cinema-themed Q&A sessions complementing the traditional sections and special screenings on offer at the Festival every year. For its 20th anniversary, the Festival on Wheels also boasts an exclusive poster from Behiç Ak, the caricaturist, playwright and author who has been producing witty and original poster designs for the Festival every year since day one.
